NEWCOM++ SPECIAL SESSION ON “COGNITIVE RADIO”
|
Organized in conjunction with 12th European Wireless Conference
12-15 April 2010, Lucca, Italy
Call For Papers
Today, access to radio spectrum is largely based on the principle of owned spectrum and fixed resource allocation, which results in non-efficient utilization and spectrum scarcity. On the other hand, measurement campaigns have demonstrated the existence of space-time frequency voids, referred to as white spaces, which can be exploited for a secondary use of spectrum. This scenario, together with the advancements in technology obtained in the unlicensed ISM (Industrial/Scientific/Medical) bands, have motivated the development of novel approaches that utilize the spectrum in an opportunistic basis, without causing harmful interference to existing services. Cognitive radio is a revolutionary technology in wireless communications that, based on the principles of environment awareness, learning and reasoning, allows a radio to dynamically and autonomously adjust its operating parameters, which eventually will be a key to carry out a dynamic secondary access to the radio spectrum.
The aim of this special session is to bring together interesting research contributions that address various aspects of cognitive radio technology, with special emphasis on the results of the European Network of Excellence in Wireless Communications NEWCOM++.
