NEWCOM# (Network of Excellence in Wireless Communications) is a project funded under the umbrella of the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission (FP7-ICT-318306). NEWCOM# pursues long-term, interdisciplinary research on the most advanced aspects of wireless communications like Finding the Ultimate Limits of Communication Networks, Opportunistic and Cooperative Communications, or Energy- and Bandwidth-Efficient Communications and Networking. Start date: Nov. 1, 2012. End date: Oct. 31, 2015.

The agreement builds on the common interests of the two projects with emphasis in particular on physical layer techniques. Ultimately, it is aimed to stimulate joint research and exchanges, as well as an increased level of participation of researchers in the activities organized by the two projects.
Distinguished Prof. Shlomo Shamai (Shitz), of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Technion (Haifa, Israel), is the recipient of Yad Hanadiv's 2014 Rothschild Prize in Mathematics/Computer Sciences and Engineering.
The prize was awarded in Jerusalem in March 2014.
