NEWCOM# (Network of Excellence in Wireless Communications) is a project funded under the umbrella of the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission (FP7-ICT-318306). NEWCOM# pursues long-term, interdisciplinary research on the most advanced aspects of wireless communications like Finding the Ultimate Limits of Communication Networks, Opportunistic and Cooperative Communications, or Energy- and Bandwidth-Efficient Communications and Networking. Start date: Nov. 1, 2012. End date: Oct. 31, 2015.

Cellular system deployment has reached practical limits in many dense urban area while the demand for data traffic is steadily increasing. This leaves cellular operators with few options to enhance the area spectral efficiency. Unfortunately, radio link improvements, including coding, cognitive transmission, and multiple antennas, are reaching their theoretical limits.
NEWCOM# Track1-2 meeting and Workshop on "the Future of Wireless Communications", Lisbon 21st-23rd January 2014"
The joint meeting Track 1-2 will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, at the premises of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).
The workshop will be held on the 23rd (since 14h30) right after the Track meeting.

Following to the Call for Candidates launched in October, Kenza Hamidouche (http://www.flexible-radio.com/kenza-hamidouche) from NEWCOM# partner SUPELEC has been elected as a Young EB member for the second year of the project.
In accordance with the Description of Work, Kenza will also act as a Workpackage Leader for WP3.5 (Development and Valorization of Human Capital).
