Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya
The Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), which is located in Barcelona, is a private non-profit R&D center with substantial funding support from the autonomous government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya) along with research and development partnership with industry. CTTC’s council is constituted by the two most important technical
universities in Catalonia: the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and the Universitat Ramon Llull (URL) as well as Generalitat de Catalunya.
The research expertise is mainly focused on technologies related to the lower layers of communication systems, being that activity organized into five distinctive areas, namely, IP technologies, Communication subsystems, Radio communications,
Access technologies and Optical networking.
Within NEWCOM++, the CTTC plans to conduct collaborative research activities with focus on the following topics: iterative receivers for wireless communications, network coding, scheduling, random matrix theory, radio resource management, localization and positioning. In addition, the CTTC also plans to play an active role in integration and spread excellence activities, such as those aimed to organize higher education courses, to valorize human capital, or to organize conferences or journal special issues.
The previous experience relevant to the above mentioned tasks comes from CTTC’s participation in a number of European and national projects: IST-NEWCOM (NoE on wireless communications), IST-ACE/2 (NoE on smart antennas), IST-WINNER/2 (radio Interfaces for 4G communication systems), IST-COOPCOM (cooperative communications), IST-WIP (wireless mesh networks), SURFCOM (radio over fiber), and Eureka-MARQUIS (multi-antenna transceivers). The CTTC also participates in some technology transfer projects directly funded by the industry, as well as in some strategic (internal) research projects .
