Istituto Superiore Mario Boella was set up in mid-2000 by its Founding Members Compagnia di San Paolo and Politecnico di Torino. Its organisation currently includes business members Motorola, SKF, STMicroelectronics and Telecom Italia Lab. Within ISMB, a highly integrated team of about 230 researchers with academic and industrial background aims at strengthening synergies between universities and the industries, focusing on basic and applied research in the synergistic sectors of Photonics, Electromagnetic Compatibility, fixed and wireless networks, e-Security, satellite positioning systems, microelectronics and nanotechnologies, radiomobile technologies for multimedia systems and relevant applications.

ISMB cooperates closely with a number of local and international Research Centers and is involved in many European projects funded by the VI-th Framework Programme. It is worth mentioning here that ISMB has been Coordinator of the NEWCOM NoE. ISMB will have a key role in management and integration activities, leveraging on the experience gained during the management of the VI-th Framework Programme NoE NEWCOM.

ISMB will also contribute to research WPs focusing on localization and positioning, security in wireless networks, and opportunistic networking.
